Suffolk carers enjoy some time off on the water

Last week, young carers enjoyed a welcome break from their duties and joined us on our 52-foot Oceanus Yacht, Viking Blue.

“It was a real privilege to work with such an enthusiastic young team. Great conditions on the water enabled them to really pull together for an exciting full-on sail.”

The event was organised to support BBC Radio Suffolk’s 8 Days a Week charity appeal.  As a company, we are committed to supporting such a worthwhile cause – leisure time like this is precious and infrequent for carers, who don’t have a great deal of free time.  Carers do a wonderful job and, like all of us, deserve some respite from their demanding routine.

The afternoon was such a success that we are already planning to provide more days on the water as a break for other carers.  We also hope to work in partnership with other providers to continue to contribute towards improving the health and wellbeing of Family Carers in Suffolk.

The 8 Days a Week appeal
This appeal aims to raise £525,000 to fund the purchase and on-going running costs of a Mobile Family Carers Centre, has already exceeded the £70,000 mark. The centre will tour the county, bringing the services provided by Suffolk Family Carers to the doorstep of families in need of help.

It will target rural and hard-to-reach areas, offering information, advice and guidance to people in their own homes. In addition, it will provide a space to deliver health and wellbeing activities like complementary therapies and simple health checks.
