Sailing and Hen Parties are a Marriage Made in Heaven

When you imagine a hen party, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Feather boas? ‘L’ Plates? Butlers in the buff?

While there will always be a place for novelty-value, it’s not the be-all and end-all when it comes to hen parties. In fact, the modern bride-to-be often craves a celebration with a difference – an experience that will unite friends and family while creating memories to last a lifetime. So what does sailing have to offer?

A truly different hen party

Hen parties bring women of all ages together in celebration of a new era. Some guests will be the hen’s close family members. Others will be school friends or colleagues. To create a truly memorable experience, it’s important to find an activity that will unite the group in laughter, fun and relaxation. And that’s where sailing really comes into its own.

Sailing is invigorating, entertaining and relaxing all at once. Aboard a beautiful boat on the open water, prosecco in hand and canapes within reach, a tailor-made sailing day is a recipe for the perfect hen party experience. From small parties to big celebrations, a bespoke sailing hen do is the stuff bridal dreams are made of.

Of course, the proof is in the party itself. Here’s a sneak peek into two of our most recent hen parties.

From a relaxing hen party…

Last month we welcomed a group of ten women aboard our luxury yacht, Viking Blue, for a wonderfully relaxing hen party. All in their late 40s and early 50s, the guests embraced the chance to switch off and catch up with each other – something the hen was really keen to achieve from her day.

With a little help from a decadent cream tea and fizzy Prosecco, the party of friends and family had an unforgettable hen party. One of the ladies even mentioned it was first time she had relaxed in months! The day’s sail was followed by dinner at the Waterfront bistro – a delicious end to a fabulous day.

To a weekend of indulgent fun…

A sailing hen party doesn’t mark the end of cheeky traditions. In fact, one of our recent parties included a butler in the buff, fancy dress and a whole lot of Tina Turner singing in the lock!

The group of twenty six women, in their late 20s and early 30s, were welcomed aboard our yachts Viking Blue and Charlotte Elizabeth, and our catamaran Alchemy. Dressed for the occasion in Breton striped tops, sailor collars and captain’s hats (with the bride-to-be dolled up as a pirate), the party was in fine form on a sunny Saturday afternoon. On the return sail, we served up traditional cream tea and crisp cool wine, while some of the ladies soaked up the sun on Alchemy’s wide open decks.

The hen party stayed at the quirky boutique private house The Old Neptune for the weekend. So, after their day on the water, the group headed off for an obligatory night out on the waterfront and Ipswich town. Cheers ladies!
