A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to have a day sail on board Viking Blue which reminded me how much I love sailing. Having sailing most of my life and doing my RYA courses with Viking Mariners. It got me thinking as a millennial, how useful it would be to have a business which was the medium between boat owners and people like myself who want to sail, but don’t want to buy a boat. Luckily there is such a business; Borrow a Boat.
Working along-side Viking Mariners, Borrow a Boat is launching on the East Coast on the celebrated Maritime weekend. With over 4000 boats globally the fundamental goal of Borrow a Boat is to get Britain boating again. There are several schemes which allow boat owners to start letting their boat out when it’s not in use, which helps owners reduce the cost of owning a boat, and allows people like myself to borrow a boat anywhere in the world whenever we want.
All that is required is an International Certificate of Competence / Day skipper for sailors. Boat owners need to be commercially insure and coded in order to hire out their boats through the scheme.
Its simple; search a location or boat, select one to your liking and then get boating and start making the most of your weekend with your friends and family. Listing your boat is easy too, just follow the steps fill in the details and start earning money instead of letting your boat pick up dust when you are not using it.
