You’ve been tasked with organising something special for an upcoming celebration. Perhaps it’s a landmark birthday. Maybe it’s an anniversary or simply a good excuse for getting together with friends and family. Whatever the occasion, the responsibility falls on you to deliver an event that no-one will forget. And that’s why you should turn your attention to sailing.
If the idea of cruising on the open water with a glass of bubbly in hand isn’t enough to convince you, here are 4 reasons why sailing makes for an ideal celebration.
Few activities can claim to involve the entire family, from young children right through to great grandparents. Sailing, however, is an exception to the rule. Bespoke, private sails can be tailored to people of all ages and abilities. Take Roger and Mavis for example – they celebrated their 80th birthdays by setting sail on Viking Blue – our 52ft luxury sail boat – along with an exclusive RIB hire. With six teenage grandchildren in tow, the entire family enjoyed a true celebration with a difference.
2. It’s the perfect escape
From time to time, we’re all guilty of getting caught up in the pressures of daily life. We don’t always devote full attention to our spouse, or make that catch-up phone call with friends. That’s why special events are such a great chance to escape, unwind, and really enjoy time with loved ones.
Recently we welcomed a couple aboard Viking Blue to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. Sailing from Ipswich along the River Orwell, around the coast and along the River Deben to Waldringfield, it was a weekend of balmy temperatures and stunning sunsets and extraordinary cakes! Their experience is testament to the fact that out there on the water, sailing offers a sense freedom like no other.
3. Sailing can be active, sedate, or something in between
Some of us love the idea of giving our bodies and brains a workout and, in the case of sailing, quite literally learning the ropes. Others prefer a gentle sailing experience, sipping on champagne, nibbling canapes and relaxing with friends. From ‘real sailors’ weekends to luxury sail days, our events cater for either side of the spectrum. Or, if you like, we can organise something that blends a bit of both.
4. We can handle it all
Event planning isn’t easy. If you need a little help, we can handle it all – from overnight stays to on-board catering and anything in between. Viking Mariners recently organised a surprise 30th birthday party including exclusive use of Viking Blue for a morning sail, canapes and bubbles, followed by lunch at the waterfront bistro on Ipswich marina. That’s just one example of our bespoke approach to special occasions!
